What made you choose interior design for your career?
I often say that interior design chose me, rather than me choosing interior design. Growing up side by side with my father who was running the family’s construction/ development business, I was making design decisions before I knew that’s what was happening. He would hand me a sketched-out layout on graph paper and a pencil to fill in the squares where the dark tile should be placed. I can’t believe he actually laid the tile that way!
What makes NPD different & unique?
I believe that NPD is very different & unique on many levels. From the team members itself, through the service we provide and how we provide it. We have invested a great deal in developing and streamlining our process in terms of both design and business which in return makes it more efficient and enjoyable for our clients. We are fully committed to our clients and outcomes, ready to go above and beyond to make it happen for them, again and again!
Best advice you’ve received and who was it from?
I have a couple of snippets playing in my head that I’ve collected over the years.
Always ask “What if?” when developing a design. Advice from an Architect & Teacher Kim Flower while taking her class in college. I remember her making me look at the design from so many angles it hurt my brain… Thank you, Mrs. Kim!
“Remember to always use natural light – because it’s free!” Architect Frank Gehry’s quote
“You cannot understand good design if you do not understand people.” quote from Dieter Rams
